Neighbourhood image

An exhibition of photographs of the Cinematography Department of the Academy of Dramatic Arts in Zagreb

With the exhibition Neighbourhood image, Zagreb City Museum continues with the production of its Zagreb neighbourhoods project.

Exhibition concept: Iva Prosoli, Kristian Strukić
Visual design: Tajana Zver

This exhibition represents the current moment of New Zagreb and Dubrava, two areas that were integrated into Zagreb after World War II during the great administrative expansion of the city, particularly in the 1950s.

These are areas that, far more than other neighbourhoods in Zagreb, tend to attract prejudices, whether it is a matter of New Zagreb, perceived as a place of mere collective housing in which the individual gets lost, or of Dubrava, which is also attended by certain prejudices. Accordingly, we wanted to see the ways in which art academy students react to such viewpoints.

The exhibition Neighbourhood image is organised as a joint venture between Zagreb City Museum and the Zagreb Academy of Dramatic Art, under the aegis of two teaching areas run by Sandra Vitaljić and Jelena Blagović – in the third year of the undergraduate camera operator course and in the first year of the master’s course, the still photography major.

With their artistic approach, students of the Cinematography Department of the Academy of Dramatic Art have given a new and different approach in the representation of these areas. The exhibited student works take hold of our attention with the freshness of their thought and their creativity, and it is a great pleasure to us to be able to say that the photographs created in this cycle have been donated to Zagreb City Museum and have become a component part of its holdings.

The photographs were taken by: Ana Mihalić, Marko Miščević, Tomislav Može, Petra Mrša, Vjekoslav Skledar, Bojan Mrđenović, Neven Petrović, Nikola Zelmanović, Davor Konjikušić, David Mihoci, Borko Vukosav, Pavle Krnjaić, Gašper Milković Biloslav, Ivan Filipović, Petar Strmečki and Damian Nenadić.
